Mistake: tuning priority and changefreq like they matter
Google has ignored <priority> and <changefreq> for years. Hours spent assigning 0.8 vs 0.6 are wasted; worse, a changefreq=daily on a static page is a false signal that undermines your lastmod credibility.
Fix checklist:
— ✅ Drop <priority> and <changefreq> entirely — they are optional and ignored by Google
— ✅ Spend that effort on accurate <lastmod> instead — the one freshness signal Google does read
— If a tool emits them by default, leave them out rather than guessing values
Definition of done: confirm generated files contain <loc> + <lastmod> and nothing else for standard URLs. No priority, no changefreq, no invented numbers. Smaller file, zero false signals.
