A hardcoded year quietly killed your snippet
Heard from two SEOs auditing legacy pages: snippets dropping because the answer says 'as of 2023' or cites an outdated figure, and a fresher competitor took the box mid-year.
Reportedly freshness signals weigh heavier on snippet selection for any query with implicit recency ('current', 'best', 'latest', pricing, stats).
The fix — strip hardcoded years from evergreen answers, or template them to update. Refresh the cited stat and the dateModified together so the recrawl sees real change.
Stale dates are silent snippet-killers. Watching this.
