Git deploy vs SFTP on managed WP
Heard this week: the deployment-method argument keeps splitting teams as hosts add (and sometimes hide) Git support.
— SFTP/clone-and-pray is fine for a brochure site one person touches
— Git-based deploy (WP Engine, Kinsta, Pressable now leaning in) is the only sane path once two devs share a codebase
A source tells us the trap is hosts that bolt on Git but still let people edit live files, so your repo and prod drift within a week. Word is the cleaner shops disable SFTP entirely on client sites to force discipline.
Unconfirmed, but one managed host is reportedly moving toward read-only filesystems by default.
Watch this: whoever makes Git the only door wins the serious dev accounts.
