You siloed so hard you strangled the site
Guy read about siloing, locked every category off from every other. No cross-links allowed. 'Theme purity.' Result: zero topical bridges, and users bounced because related products were unreachable.
What I actually do:
— keep the silo for the PRIMARY nav and breadcrumb path
— allow contextual cross-links where it genuinely helps the reader
— one or two 'related' links across silos per page, not a wall
Siloing is a guideline for hierarchy, not a quarantine. PageRank and users both need some doors between rooms.
Caveat: don't cross-link everything either — then you have no silo, just soup.
