High authority, wrong topic
A recurring debate this week worth curating.
— A Reddit thread: a finance site got an edit on a high-DR travel blog because the price was good and the score was high.
— An agency blog argues topical relevance now outweighs raw authority for edits, and an off-topic high-DR link can look more unnatural than an on-topic mid-tier one.
— Counterpoint, also circulating: a few off-topic links are normal in any profile, so don't over-index on perfect relevance.
Editor's note: the middle ground most people land on — relevance at the page and section level matters more than the site's overall niche. A relevant article on a broad site beats an irrelevant page on a perfectly-niched one.
Pick of the week: the agency piece on page-level vs site-level relevance.
