A mid-size SaaS company swore their best traffic day was Tuesday. Analytics agreed. But finance kept frowning at Sunday, which looked dead in GA4 yet posted real card charges.
The clue sat in one segment: sessions where consent_state was 'denied'. Their banner defaulted to denied on mobile, and 38% of weekend mobile users never tapped accept. Those buyers converted; they just never showed up in reports.
They didn't fight the privacy choice. They added server-side conversion tracking through the gateway webhook, independent of the banner, and reconciled it nightly.
Measured revenue on Sunday rose from a reported $1,240 to an actual $4,610 once the ghost buyers appeared. Same sales. Suddenly visible.
The lesson: when analytics and the bank disagree, trust the bank and go find what the tag never fired on.
