"Go long — TikTok is pushing 60s+ for the ad breaks"
The received wisdom: the platform monetizes longer videos, so longer = favored. People cite the creator-fund minimum-length rules as proof.
That conflates payout mechanics with distribution mechanics. Yes, monetization rewards 60-second-plus. No, the recommendation engine doesn't hand long videos free reach — it leans on completion, and longer videos complete less by definition.
What's true: long works only when your hook earns the runtime — story, tutorial, payoff that genuinely needs the seconds. For a single punchline or a fact, 7–15s with high completion beats a padded 60s every time on cold reach.
Go long to get paid on a proven audience. Go short to build one. Don't confuse the two scoreboards.
