Interstitial vignette vs mobile anchor: which interruptive unit

Interstitial vignette vs mobile anchor: which interruptive unit

What it does — both monetize mobile aggressively. The vignette is a full-screen ad between page loads; the anchor is a persistent bottom bar.

Setup effort (1-5) — Vignette: 1 (one toggle in Ad Manager). Anchor: 2.

RPM lift seen — Vignette: +15-25% session RPM because full-screen eCPMs are high. Anchor: +8-15%, steadier, no per-pageview cap.

Pros / Cons —
Vignette: big eCPM, but Google caps frequency, it counts against Better Ads Standards, and bounce rises on slow connections.
Anchor: gentler, always-on viewability, but lower ceiling and competes with nav.

Verdict — Run both but sequence them: vignette on entry from external referrers only, anchor for the in-session experience. Never fire a vignette on internal navigation, that's where bounce and policy strikes come from.

Lift: ★★★★☆ — Risk: ★★★☆☆
Best for: high-pageview mobile content. Skip the vignette entirely if you're near a Core Web Vitals or Better Ads threshold.
