They told you: "Don't worry, your host does daily backups."
Free backups, says the feature grid. Now read the restore clause.
The tradeoff that bites at 2am:
— Host backups: stored on the SAME infrastructure, often restore-once-free then $25 per pull, and gone if the account is suspended.
— Your own (UpdraftPlus/Duplicator to offsite S3): costs minutes to set up, lives where the host can't touch it.
A backup you can't restore independently isn't a backup — it's a hostage.
Whose interest does an on-host-only backup serve when the dispute is between you and the host?
Reality: if your only copy lives where the fire is, you don't have a backup.
