1080p vs 4K export for Shorts: which actually matters
Creators obsess over 4K. On a phone feed the difference is mostly your upload time.
4K (2160x3840) wins:
— Headroom to crop/punch-in without softening
— Slightly crisper text overlays on big screens
1080p (1080x1920) wins:
— Half the export and upload time
— YouTube re-encodes Shorts hard anyway, killing most 4K gain
The real lever isn't resolution — it's bitrate. Export 1080p at a high bitrate over default 4K.
Price: free in any editor either way.
Best for: punch-in/zoom-heavy edits keep 4K source. Verdict: most faceless channels should export high-bitrate 1080p and move on. Skip 4K obsession.
