Tracked link-growth vs ranking for 40 of our own campaigns over two years. Plotted pace against penalties.

Correlation between raw velocity and ranking drops: basically zero (r ≈ 0.04). Correlation between LOW link relevance and drops: strong.

There is no magic links-per-week number that flips a penalty switch. We looked. It's not there.
