Post stuck at position 14 for months. Content was solid. Problem: every page ranking above us was a LIST, ours was a narrative essay. Intent mismatch.
The fix:
— Checked the top 10: 9 of 10 were numbered listicles
— Rebuilt our post as a clean numbered list, same info, restructured
— Kept the URL, refreshed the date
Three weeks later: position 6. Google was telling us the format it wanted, we just weren't listening.
Before you write, look at WHAT ranks, not just who. Match the format or stay on page 2.
