Daily full backups are lazy and incremental-forever is reckless. Pick the boring middle.
Daily fulls burn storage and bandwidth so you sleep better. Incremental-forever saves space until one corrupt link in the chain rots every restore behind it.
The answer is weekly full + daily incremental + synthetic fulls so the chain never grows past 7 links.
— Full: bulletproof restore, expensive
— Incremental: cheap, chain-fragile
— Synthetic full: best of both, ignored by everyone
If your backup chain is 300 incrementals deep, you have a time bomb, not a strategy. Change my mind.
