The upsell page makes VPS sound like a different planet. Who profits from that jump? The host's margin, mostly.
Where the line actually is:
— Managed shared: someone patches and tunes for you. Fine until you hit CPU caps.
— Unmanaged VPS: you get root and a bare Ubuntu box. Nobody secures it. Nobody fixes the kernel panic at 3am.
Most people buying a $5 VPS to "escape shared" just traded a noisy neighbor for a server they can't administer.
Did you want isolation, or did you want a sysadmin? Those aren't the same purchase.
Reality: VPS buys you control, not competence — bring your own or pay for managed.
