The dentist who swore he ranked first
Meet a dentist in Austin. "I'm number one," he told us, phone out, showing his listing at the top. He checked every morning from his office, logged into his own account.
He was looking through the most biased lens possible: his own location, his own search history, his own brand affinity baked in.
We ran a geo-grid scan instead — Local Falcon, a 7x7 grid across his whole service area. The picture changed completely. At his office: first. Two miles north: eleventh. Across the river where half his patients lived: nowhere on the map.
The incognito window he'd been told to use? Better than logged-in, but still just one point on a map — his point.
We targeted the weak grid squares with localized review requests and a north-side landing page. The dead zones filled in over ten weeks. New-patient calls climbed from 40 to 67 a month.
The lesson: incognito checks one spot; a grid tracker shows the whole battlefield. Local ranking isn't a number, it's a heat map — and you can only fix the cold squares you can actually see.
