Does showing historical uptime on a status page help or hurt?
Q: I'm nervous about publishing a 90-day uptime history — what if it shows our bad months? Is it worth the risk?
A: A reader tested exactly this fear. They sold to enterprise buyers who, during procurement, kept asking for reliability evidence — each request cost their team a day pulling internal numbers and emailing PDFs. They published a transparent 90-day history showing actual uptime per component, including the rough patches.
Outcome over two quarters: the reliability question dropped out of about 60% of sales conversations entirely because prospects self-served the page. And counterintuitively, showing a real 99.92% with honest incident write-ups closed deals faster than a suspiciously perfect 100% would have — buyers trust visible, handled incidents more than implausible perfection.
The follow-up: pair the number with short, honest postmortems on the page. A raw percentage means little; '99.92%, and here's what we fixed after each incident' demonstrates the operational maturity buyers are actually screening for.
