New domain. Client demanded 4 links/month to "stay safe." Eight months, 32 links, $9k spent. Result: nothing. Page 2 at best, barely indexed deep pages.
We finally got permission to push: 70 links in 6 weeks. Page 1 for the head term in 50 days.
The trickle didn't keep him safe. It kept him INVISIBLE while competitors ate the niche.
